My main concern can be summarized in the following ideal, which, alas, despite all of the industry's efforts to the contrary, remains far from being realized: Computers should do what computers do best, and humans should concentrate exclusively on tasks that require genuine creativity and innovation. In my opinion, it is mainly improvements in the following areas that could get us closer to this goal:
- Improving workflow automation
- Insuring coherent quality assurance with content re-usability in mind
- Leveraging semantic information contained in the file format's metadata
- Encouraging convergence of machine translation (in particular, corpus-based machine translation) and computer-assisted translation
- Promoting increased use of open localization standards such as TMX, TBX or XLIFF.
- Innovating interface design for CAT tools, project management applications, etc.
